Hi friends,

Today I am back with yet another altered project..an embroidery hoop which iImade as a gift for a

friend.Past fifteen days I was busy attending workshop with Chandra Rawal (humble artist from

mumbai with great skills at carving and clay sculpting).Days were spent with some great new friends

and loads of learning.I am happy that I participated in it as it infused some change into my crafting

pattern. Will surely write a separate post about my experiences and share my work and processes with

clay sculpting .

Today I however share another small project ..altered embroidery hoop .It is interesting to include

regular mundane objects to create interesting texture.I have used toothpicks easily available in every

household to give texture. Please view the process .Pics are self explanatory.I have used inks to color

the project.(the colors used are burnt sienna, pursian blue and orange)

Thanks for viewing.Regards,
Ruchi.

Altered mix media luminaries

Hello crafters,

Ruchi here again.

Happy Diwali to you all.Hope you all had a good one.Festivities are time to catch up with your

friends and family and as Diwali ushers in New year,it is time to restart ,renew your life and

home.We all clean up our houses and bring in new stuff around this festival.Similarly I too

accumulated loads of stuff ready to throw or give to the kabadiwala. But being a crafter throwing

stuff always is a painful process and I invariably try best out of waste projects from them.So today I

am sharing with you another project which uses old discarded lamp shades as substrate.Hope you like

it.

                                    ALTERED MIXED MEDIA LUMINARIES

As diwali is a festival of  lights I decided to use my old glass shades to transform them into

luminaries.I have used Tinted Metallics LITTLE BIRDIE BRAND from ITSYBITSY  to alter my

project.Tinted metallics are really good and I would like to list out the advantages:

1.Works well on all kind of surfaces.

2.Has extremely good lustre which can be achieved with very little paint thus saving on paint .

3.Very smooth to work with and the thick consistency is perfect for mixed media application.

To begin I have used some burlap, onion bags and tissue paper, lace and chipboard scraps which I have

pasted on the shades to give texture.

Next step was to create some focal elements giving 3d look to the project. For this I used old cd,glass

beads,resin embellishment,metal wing,keys ,small beads,paper/foam flower etc.You can use whatever

comes to your mind.I have pasted all my elements with silicon glue and pva glue from ITSYBITSY

and left the project to dry for 12 hours.Upon drying I have given a thorough coat of Mont marte

black Gesso.

Now it was time to start coloring the project. My color choices were to use Tinted metallic paint by

ITSYBITSY and color splash spray also from the store.Pl see the links at the bottom, for the

products used .

Finished Product looks this way...

Fantasy Mixed media canvas using organic material.

Hi crafters,

The festival of diwali is behind us and now I am back to my regular creative self.Orders are done and

delivered and it gives me great opportunity to pursue personal artistic goals. As my blog is fairly new

I  thought I should increase the reach by participating more in various challenges. This new challenge

by Mixed Media and art seemed quite interesting so here I am presenting a canvas as my entry to

the moodboard and the sketch-"Fantasy" for October2017 challenge. The link to the same is

 https://mixedmediaandart.blogspot.in/2017/10/october-challenge-fantasy.html

This mood board has the theme Fantasy which is very magical as it gives the scope to explore

anything and everything as per the imagination. This truly inspired me to create my own take on this.

Here I have used the circle as the defining feature and forms the focal point of my work.Used loads

of texture with organic materials like dried twigs, organic bowl, and homemade paper clay for the

various 3d elements.Short tutorial follows.

FANTASY MIXED MEDIA CANVAS

First I took a canvas 16 inch by 20 inch(the biggest i have attempted so far).I decided to give it a

wood effect and hence pasted strips of cardboard.Next came the texturing with modelling paste and

dry wall tape.I had picked up some dry twigs on my daily morning work and decided to place that

with the help of plaster cloth.

As my thought process was to create some craters which seem like open pods (to my various

fantasies) and one big crater as focal point which reflects my current fantasy or lights up my fantasy

BULB unleashing multiple thoughts.Phew..as my thoughts were sorted it was time to gather supplies

to give them shape.Used an organic bowl cut at the base,Bulb, homemade paper clay, some foam

butterflies, one big mdf butterfly and some metal elements.Pls refer to pics for clarity.

I pasted all the elements and than let it rest for 12hrs so that everything was pasted properly. Now it

was time to play with colors. As the mood board was dark with spots of light ,I painted the whole

canvas with black gesso and the butterflies with white gesso.I pasted some broken bulbs from my

fairly lights to make centres and antennas of the butterflies.

For the coloring I have used acrylic colors, white gesso and some drawing inks.I am happy with the

outcome and hope you enjoy it too.I stepped out of the usual cheerful color to more dark and intense

colors and very satisfied that I did this.Finished work looks like this

I decided to add a quote too
