Fantasy Mixed media canvas using organic material.

Hi crafters,

The festival of diwali is behind us and now I am back to my regular creative self.Orders are done and

delivered and it gives me great opportunity to pursue personal artistic goals. As my blog is fairly new

I  thought I should increase the reach by participating more in various challenges. This new challenge

by Mixed Media and art seemed quite interesting so here I am presenting a canvas as my entry to

the moodboard and the sketch-"Fantasy" for October2017 challenge. The link to the same is

This mood board has the theme Fantasy which is very magical as it gives the scope to explore

anything and everything as per the imagination. This truly inspired me to create my own take on this.

Here I have used the circle as the defining feature and forms the focal point of my work.Used loads

of texture with organic materials like dried twigs, organic bowl, and homemade paper clay for the

various 3d elements.Short tutorial follows.

FANTASY MIXED MEDIA CANVAS

First I took a canvas 16 inch by 20 inch(the biggest i have attempted so far).I decided to give it a

wood effect and hence pasted strips of cardboard.Next came the texturing with modelling paste and

dry wall tape.I had picked up some dry twigs on my daily morning work and decided to place that

with the help of plaster cloth.

As my thought process was to create some craters which seem like open pods (to my various

fantasies) and one big crater as focal point which reflects my current fantasy or lights up my fantasy

BULB unleashing multiple thoughts.Phew..as my thoughts were sorted it was time to gather supplies

to give them shape.Used an organic bowl cut at the base,Bulb, homemade paper clay, some foam

butterflies, one big mdf butterfly and some metal elements.Pls refer to pics for clarity.

I pasted all the elements and than let it rest for 12hrs so that everything was pasted properly. Now it

was time to play with colors. As the mood board was dark with spots of light ,I painted the whole

canvas with black gesso and the butterflies with white gesso.I pasted some broken bulbs from my

fairly lights to make centres and antennas of the butterflies.

For the coloring I have used acrylic colors, white gesso and some drawing inks.I am happy with the

outcome and hope you enjoy it too.I stepped out of the usual cheerful color to more dark and intense

colors and very satisfied that I did this.Finished work looks like this

I decided to add a quote too

Thanks for viewing..Have a good day,

Regards,Ruchi Gupta
