Upcycling old CDs for D Quirky Upcyclers

Hi friends,

Today I am here on behalf of the INSTAGRAM HOP  #Dquirkupcyclers  with an inspirational post

for you all.You can browse the details of the contest and prize details in my earlier

post  https://ruchicraftstudio.blogspot.com/2020/04/hello-mates-hope-quarentine-is-treating.html

As we are all stuck at home with limited supplies, now is the time to reuse, recycle and restore your

waste lying around.Old vintage stuff,empty bottles and containers,wrappers,old magazines,books,etc

all make good base for creative application.

Today I will be sharing some of my ideas on up cycling old CDs which are available with all of us.

CREATIVE PROJECTS WITH OLD CDs

Crafts with CDs are fairly popular with loads of inspiration available out there.I am going to share a

project which I created for this Hop.It is a cute little project which kids and mothers both will enjoy

to make. I am sharing step by step pics with directions for you.

Funky  FRIDA KAHLO Face with old CD.

Materials required for this project:Old Cd,some corrugated sheet(if not available just use any

cartoon box and take off the top layer of brown paper),marker, old flowers(can use any type of

flowers, paper, foam, fabric, artificial plastic ones also),piece of red paper or felt and old pair of

earrings, some scrap pattern paper or any skin tone paper(if not available use any white paper)

Step by Step :First you need to make the templates which I made. One piece of circle which is the

size of CD and one template for hair. Please refer to the pic attached to get an idea.

Now just take some scrap paper in the color of skin and cut the circle. For the hair ,I have used black

corrugated sheet and cut two templates. You can use foam in black color or any old cartoon box

lid.Just peel off the top brown paper layer to reveal the corrugated sheet below and paint the same

 with black acrylic.

Now paste these on to the Cd with white glue.I have made a cut for her hairband which was made

with cloth inserted in between the two layers of corrugated sheet templates

Now you can draw the eyebrows and eyes of Frida. As her eyebrows were iconic as they almost meet

in center, similarly draw them to get the resemblance of her.

Now the fun begins as you embellish the the hair with loads of flowers. You can use

paper, foam, fabric, plastic the cheap artificial ones which you may have discarded ,all come in

handy.Just try and choose some red flowers .Also cut a small heart shape from felt or red paper to

make the lips..Also I added some earrings to add fun factor to it.I pasted some tape at the back to

hang it.You can further attach more ribbon at bottom and convert it into clip storage also. The

 possibilities are endless..

Hope you will be inspired to try it out with your kids.

ANIMAL SHAPED MOBILES WITH CDs

More inspiration for you all..

Thanks all for being here and I sincerely hope that you got inspired to reuse, restore and recycle .

Do participate in the instagram hop and present your creations to win loads of prizes.

My task for you all is to recycle an old Cd and create something useful out of it.The maximum use of

waste material in embellishing or the most out of the box gets a goodie bag from my side worth

Rs.1000 from Icraft (also includes a handmade piece done by me)

Hello friends,

Ruchi here on the blog today with a new project which I created using an old embroidery hoop. It is not my usual style but I like to mix up things and see where it takes me!
My thought behind this layout style mixed media alteration was a gentle reminder again, to myself to be Bold, Daring, and Original in my creative efforts. I want to be fearless in pursuit of my creative adventures and this quote was the reflection of my thoughts.
Hope you like my take here and try to attempt it, using some awesome products from Little Birdie Crafts collection. I am totally loving the Stone Texture Paste and got myself some more. It has such great texture and is ready too use. No mixing, no fuss.

PROJECT : Altered Hoop - "Be You"

Step by Step Process

Step 1: I took an old embroidery hoop which was not in use due to some cracks  it developed over time .I measured out a piece of sun board to the size of the circle and cut it with a blade. After that, I coated it with some white gesso, used a  stencil with modelling paste to give some texture and added pages from an old book randomly on to the cutout. I did not paste this on the hoop, as it gave me a better hold to do stencilling etc. I gave a coat of clear gesso to the book pages as I wanted to prime them but not cover them.

Step 2 : Once the base was done, I tackled the hoop. I used Stone Texture Paste to the hoop to give it texture and dimension. Once it dried (which was rather quick, I must say) I painted it with white gesso. As I had already decided the focal point (which is an image from a calendar) I chose some matching brown, yellow and gold color sprays to add color to the background. I fussy cut the image and worked everything around it.

Step 3 : Once the colors dried, I did some stencilling with chalk paint to give a foliage effect.  I added some natural sisal fiber to the base to the image. To give the hoop a more grungy look, I decided to add a touch of brown, red and a dash of yellow chalk paints and cover it. I also decided to use a piece of chipboard which I painted with similar colours used on the hoop.

Step 4: Now it was time to assemble the whole thing. I pasted some leaves on the hoop. Next. I  pasted the chipboard shapes and the sisal fiber. Then I added my focal point (gave two coats of gloss varnish to the image) and some micro beads to add interest. Lastly It was time to add the sentiment which got me started on the project.

                                                                  The Final Look!

Thanks for visiting,
Love and hugs,
Ruchi
